Books of the Week - 11/21/18

1. Astonishing X-Men #17 (Marvel) ★★★★
Writer: Matthew Rosenberg / Art: Greg Land & Jay Leisten / Colors: Frank D’Armata
I bought this book for the cover, and had no idea what was going on – and it didn’t matter! A great read with solid art by Greg Land. I’ve always had a soft spot for Alex Summers. This is the last issue of the series (go figure). Now I have to pick-up the first 16.

2. Uncanny X-Men #2 (Marvel) ★★★★
Writer: Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg & Kelly Thompson / Art: R.B. Silva & Adriano Di Benedetto / Colors: Rachelle Rosenberg
As EVENT! books go, this was quite good. R.A. Silva’s art is always a pleasure, plus I’m a big Maddox fan. Some WTF moments, but somehow it works in this story.

3. Infinity Wars: Sleepwalker #3 (Marvel) ★★★★
Writer: Chad Bowers & Chris Simms / Art: Todd Nauck / Colors: Rachelle Rosenberg
Still loving Todd Nauck’s art. The World Pool sequence was a lot of fun, bonus points for Man-Thing-Thang-Thoom. Very compelling read.

4. Nightwing #53 (DC) ★★★★
Writer: Scott Lobdell & Fabian Nicieza / Art: Travis Moore & Patch Zircher / Colors: Tamra Bonvillain
One of the worst covers I’ve seen in years, couldn’t distract from a solidly written story with impressive art (inside) by Travis Moore & Patch Zircher. I am so enjoying this arc.
