Books of the Week - 10/31/18

1. Fence #11 (Boom Box) ★★★★★
Writer: C.S. Pacat / Art: Johanna the Mad / Colors: Joana Lafuente
So many feels! Everything in this issue lands just right from beginning to end. The fencing sequence between Jay & Tanner is especially well done.

2. Extermination #4 (Marvel) ★★★★★
Writer: Ed Brisson / Art: Pepe Larraz & Ario Anindito with Dexter Vines / Colors: Erick Arciniega
This book has everything one could want in an event title: Action! Suspense! Shocks! It’s been a great build. I can’t wait for issue 5.

3. West Coast Avengers #3 (Marvel) ★★★★★
Writer: Kelly Thompson / Art: Stefano Caselli / Colors: Triona Farrell
Kelly Thompson & Stefano Caselli continue to produce a beautiful & fun book that’s a refreshing change of pace from the grim seriousness of many of Marvels other titles.

4. Nightwing #50 (DC) ★★★★★
Writer: Benjamin Percy / Art: Travis Moore, Chris Mooneyham & Klaus Janson / Colors: Tamra Bonvillian, Nick Filardi & John Kalisz
Finally got my copy and boy howdy, is this a great book. Travis Moore’s art is beautiful, and Benjamin Percy’s story has me eager for more. I bought #51 a couple of weeks ago, now I need catch up on some back issues.

5. Batman #54 thru #57 (DC) ★★★★★ (All)
Writer: Tom King / Art: Mark Wagner, Tony S. Daniel, Mark Buckingham & Andrew Popoy / Colors: Tomeu Morey
Having picked up Nightwing 50 & 51, I felt the need to see what happened in Batman 55. One thing led to another and four books later I was blown away by Tom King’s compelling, and humorous writing as well as Matt Wagner & Tony Daniel’s art. Issue 54 (The Better Man) was so much fun, with silly villains & Batman laughing (who knew Nightwing was so funny?) Issues 55 thru 57 (Beasts of Burden) were intensely riveting and beautifully executed. I loved these books! Excuse me while I step out to pick up (more) back issues.

6. Multiple Man #5 (Marvel) ★★★★
Writer: Matt Rosenberg / Art: Andy MacDonald / Colors: Tamra Bonvillain
Fun, lighthearted issue, even with all the deaths. The ending was a bit confusing, but overall I enjoyed it. Still love the art.
