In the summer of 2000 a friend gave me a CD with a collections of songs he had burned at his home. I had been making cassette tape collections for years, but had never seen a self-burned CD collection before. I quickly set about buying my own burner and began making my own monthly playlist of songs pulled from my ever growing CD collection. Eventually CD’s gave way to digital downloads, but the monthly playlists (or ‘Month Discs’, as I stubbornly continue to call them) carry on. With the advent of streaming music services I find myself building ridiculously large playlists in Spotify, but I still produce at least one Month Disc every month, to capture the new music I was listening to.
